Grapes of the World - Part 3

Grenache - This black grape is originally from Spain, where it says Grenacha. It is for the production of red table wine and is also grown in France and California. This vine grows best in hot and dry regions. It produces wines that varies in color from a light rose to an inky black.

Merlot - This grape is an important blending variety for the great Bordeaux chateaux wines of southwestern France. Merlot wine has become very popular in the United States, withdeveloped many new vineyards in California and Washington. This grape produces a full-bodied wine with lots of black fruit and chocolate aromas and flavors.

Pinot Noir - grows best in northern Burgundy in east-central France. Although also produced in both California and Oregon, but Oregon has developed a reputation with this grape variety. Pinot Noir is usually a low production yields and produces a light body, bright wine, a distinctiveCoffee-like bouquet. Pinot Noir is regularly seen as one of the largest varieties of Black, that the burden of production as one of the hardest to bear. Durif wines are made from fully seasoned and often blackcurrant overtones. Durif wines are best with roast beef, stew served spiced and full of cheese. In California, it is oftenincorrectly identified as Petite Syrah.
