Topic cities are always fun for travelers in search of new and different, and the Danish-inspired village of Solvang is no exception. Bakeries, beer gardens and dozens of wineries in the vicinity are you for exploration while city dwellers liiterally dancing in the streets. And this is just the beginning.
It can not hurt either, that in one of Solvang, California 's most scenic areas - wine country, which was to be seen spectacularly situated in the highly acclaimed film Sideways. Several picturesque wineries are sprinkled throughout the rolling hills of wine lovers, offering the tantalizing prospect of a landscape that more and more spectacular with every taste of locally produced World-class wines.
Refreshingly, the Solvang area still quite low register of the arrogance scale, with the visitors of all kinds will find much to see and enjoy in the region. In the village we noticed mostly families on the sunny weekend we visited, while the> Wine Tours public was more divided in pairs and small groups. There is the Solvang that families have pedi-rental cars, laughing their way through the one square mile of downtown stores and shops. Then there's the Solvang wine-lovers, who at such luxury hotels as the Santa Ynez Inn, Fess Parker's Wine Country Inn and toast their crystal glasses stay during a tour of the wineries luxury sedan.
Expenditures for a few hours shopping in Solvang reminded us of asimilar theme town nearby, where we grew up - Leavenworth, Washington. : Buy In both cities seem to all citizens and businesses in the illusion for the visitors, that they really are on vacation in Europe. While Solvang is a Danish theme, it also shares a lot of German or Alpine costumes, music and food, which can be found in the Bavarian village of Leavenworth. And of course, the two cities have an abundance of bakeries and beer gardens.
Solvang The name means "sunBox and give the city was founded in 1911 to 9,000 acres of former Spanish land. This school has played an important role in maintenance of the Danish culture alive in this area for generations. Solvang is not only a city of Danish showcase, a large proportion of the population is in Danish fraternal organizations involved and have long pedigrees back to Denmark.
The situation inElverhøj the Museum of History and Art show, visitors will find, as the first settlers lived. Maps will help visitors find the original locations where the community was settled. Downtown more history, visit the Hans Christian Andersen Museum. The Santa Ynez Valley Historical Museum is located in Santa Ynez, where you will find a lot of Valley history and artifacts.
The downtown shops are varied and it takes hours to help you get an impression of diversity. Christmas shopping,Danish chocolate shops, an amazing selection of gift shops, did not disappoint the city. If both spouses are not interested in this business are til-you-drop weekend Solvang offers a simple solution: A large number of beer gardens, wineries and tasting rooms to hold to your interest, even if you're not a shopper's paradise. In fact, the Solvang Conference and Visitors Bureau not less than 12 tasting rooms, and the beer gardens serving authentic German beer in real one-liter Germansteins.
Other tourist infrastructure, which will prove useful: an unusually large number of toilets and parking facilities. While allowing most small tourist towns, content with a large parking lot and toilet area, we counted at least three in Solvang - assuming there were others that we do not miss it. Solvang Visitors never lose too much time to have parking or a toilet, and the locals seem to understand, that is all the more time for the money.
There are severalRestaurants near Solvang shopping, each sharing the Danish design and develop some entirely. We stayed in the city newest accommodation, which is actually a former motor inn that has gone through extensive upgrades. Hadsten The house is not a typical motor inn, but a haven of luxury with each of its rooms to the amenities of a luxury hotel updated. The new owners have paid great attention to detail, every room now, everything from first-class rugs, custom bed treatmentsFrench and establishment of new fireplaces and bathrooms completely renovated. High-definition LCD TV and DVD player are standard.
The rooms in the house Hadsten were completed before our visit in early March, but until April or early May, will include extensive new landscaping, a new wine bar, a new 15-person Jacuzzi and hot breakfast function to the new lobby restaurant to the field. While we were there, was the rate of $ 70 because of the ongoing renovation, reduced depending on thewhere they are with the building, additional discounts are offered for the next few weeks.
Solvang is located in the Santa Ynez Valley and, as already mentioned, many visitors combine their shopping trips to Solvang, with a number of 60 wineries in the region. About 18,000 hectares in the valley are now covered with vines. Most wineries welcome visitors year-round, and if you do not have a driver, there are wine tours offered, which will be held from vineyard to vineyardin a luxurious stretch limousine.
Another fun thing to do in the area is to the places you saw in the movie Sideways explore. A brochure card is available directly at locations in Los Olivos, Santa Ynez, Buellton and Solvang, all played a major role in the film. It is the Days Inn Buellton where Miles and Jack stayed and the parking lot, where Stephanie blows on three-timing Jack. Or how about AJ Spurs, the western-themed restaurant where Jack meets his one-night stand, Cami. Thenthere is the Sanford Winery, where Miles teaches Jack the basics of wine tasting and, of course, Fess Parker Winery where the server refuses to serve Miles a full glass of wine, that he guzzles the spit bucket instead. In total there are 19 Sideways locations on the map are detailed, all quite recognizable from the movie.
